Posture is often misunderstood and blamed for many problems but research has not actually found any causation between posture and pain.
This means that while 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘶𝘱𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘵, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢 𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 > 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘯.
You looking down to your phone or slumping in your chair is not necessarily the reason of your pain.
As there is 𝘯𝘰 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦, there is also 𝘯𝘰 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘭 𝘣𝘢𝘥 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴.
Forcing yourself in an “upright” or “military” position, can actually cause more issues than doing any good.
👉 𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞. It’s fine to slump, as long as your spine has full range of movement in all directions.
𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐲 (or at all) 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. And even this has might not be the cause of pain.
So what about all those magic treatments with all the before and after photos?!
👉 No passive treatment can improve your posture long term. It can dampen the nervous system and provide relaxation in tight areas, but 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐚𝐝𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨𝐩, 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐥𝐥 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬.
